Sperm Injection

The goal of ICSI (Intracytoplasmatic sperm injection) is to facilitate fertilization by reducing or eliminating the obstacles that sperm find in their attempt to penetrate the egg and to fertilize it.

It consists of the direct microinjection of spermatozoa inside the oocyte. It is performed in the laboratory by the embryologist, who uses micro-manipulators to drill the cell membrane of the oocyte and introduce the selected sperm into the interior.

This technique is reserved for cases in which IVF fertilization is predicted to fail and has contributed to the resolution of many cases of severe male infertility.

Procedure stages:

Medical Appointment

Assessment of the patient condition and establishment for medical treatment.


Administration of drugs for ovarian stimulation and ultrasound control 2/3 times, to measure the number and size of the follicles.
When the follicles reach the desired size, the procedure is scheduled and an hCG injection is required for induction of oocyte maturation about 36 hours earlier.

Follicular puncture

The procedure, with a maximum duration of approximately 15 minutes, consists of the collection of the matured oocytes, being performed in an operating room, under sedation, in order to minimize discomfort for the patient.

Oocytes Selection

After collection of the oocytes these are selected according to their potential to generate an embryo.

Sperm Collection

Sperm collection is done.
Donor sperm can also be used in the indicated cases.

Spermatozoa Selection

Spermatozoa are prepared and selected taking into account mobility and morphology.

Intracytoplasmic Injection

Intracytoplasmic injection is performed by introducing the sperm into the previously selected ovum.

Embryo Culture

The resulting embryos, after fertilization of the oocytes, are evaluated daily taking into account their morphology and rhythm of division, ie quality and quantity of the embryos.

Embryo Transfer

The embryo fertilized in vitro is successfully placed inside the uterus.

Vitrification of Ovocytes

Vitrification of Ovocytes over a period of 5 years.

Pregnancy test

Blood analysis (βhCG) is performed to confirm pregnancy.
